BlackBerry’s latest smartphone – the BlackBerry DTEK60 – will be launching on October 25, new reports on the web indicate.
BlackBerry inadvertently leaked the specifications of DTEK60 sometime back on its own website and while the page on which the specifications were listed was pulled within a very short time, it wasn’t quick enough and news hungry authors on online news sites managed to take a screen capture of the page and posted it on the Internet. From the specifications it seems that while DTEK60 isn’t going to be top-of-the-line smartphone in its class, the hardware components and features will make it a much improved smartphone than its predecessor – the DTEK50.
The DTEK60 is expected to have a 5.5-inch display, and a good enough processor under the hood – a 64-bit Snapdragon processor paired with 4 GB RAM. The smartphone is also expected to have a fingerprint sensor and this effectively makes it a much better proposition for business users considering that it was the only feature that was lacking from the otherwise secure smartphone.
Now we are hearing that BlackBerry will most likely announce the DTEK60 next week – specifically on October 25. The date sits in line with earlier reports of the handset going on pre-order at the start of the month with delivers expected at the end of the month. The pre-orders were taken down as well and this indicates that either BlackBerry wasn’t ready with the smartphones or the retailers were too anxious to get the DTEK60 out on the streets to get rid of whatever units they had ordered from the Canadian smartphone manufacturer.
With almost no luck for BlackBerry with its Android smartphones, the company has already called it quits from the smartphone hardware manufacturing business. Like the previous smartphones from BlackBerry we do not expect a huge applause for the DTEK60 when it is launched. When the pre-order pages were live, the prices indicated were $700 and this is much higher than the $429 which DTEK50 costs. A German retailer also released an advertisement that appears to confirm the DTEK60’s release next week.
