A new leak claiming to reveal a CNC model of the iPhone 8 from Foxconn suggests that if true it could mean that we have at our hands the third version of the iPhone 8 featuring edge-to-edge display and no physical home button.

Apple is likely to launch three models of iPhone 8 and at least one of the models will be a version that celebrates 10 years of iPhones. We have been receiving a number of reports from all over Apple’s supply chain that two handsets will be marginal upgrades to the current generation iPhone, but there will be a third version with stainless steel chassis covered by curved glass on the front and back. The latest leak suggests that we may be looking at what it could be like.

iPhone 8 is quite far and Bloomberg claimed in one of its reports recently that Apple is yet to finalise on the specifications of the upcoming iPhones, but reports have already started flowing in from Cupertino’s supply chain of what possible design and configuration the next iPhone will feature.

The latest leak joining the fray of previous leaks is a set of photos of a dummy iPhone 8, which the leakster claims, is CNC model from Foxconn). The alleged CNC model of the iPhone 8 was leaked by Benjamin Geskin who in the tweet also indicated that the next iPhone could either be called iPhone 8 or iPhone X – likely because it will be the 10th anniversary of the launch of original iPhone.

The dummy features an edge-to-edge display and doesn’t have a home button effectively meaning that there is no TouchID. Previous leaks have been indicating that iPhone 8 will have an edge-to-edge display and that Apple will embed the fingerprint sensor into the display. Samsung Galaxy S8 also features fingerprint scanner underneath the display to make room for an edge-to-edge display and that’s mostly what Apple will go for as well for its iPhone 8.

The side frame is stainless steel giving us a feeling that it is in line with the original iPhone that was launched 10 years back. Apple may be resorting to such a design to commemorate a decade of iPhones by releasing a new model that is in line with the original design.

On one side are the volume keys and a mute switch while on the other is the power button along with a SIM tray. The power button on this dummy iPhone 8 is larger than the current-generation models.

On the rear we find a dual camera setup with the lenses stacked vertically and not horizontally. We have been getting reports that Apple has been testing iPhone with such a lens arrangement.

One thing that you would notice is that the dummy handset doesn’t feature an Apple logo and this could mean two things – either it’s a deliberate move to keep things secret, or it is a fake iPhone 8 dummy unit. This effectively leaves us with no choice but to take the leak with a generous pinch of salt.
