Just days after being shown off at the Los Angeles Auto Show, the road test versions of 2017 Honda Civic Type R has been spotted at couple of places – once in California and now in Australia.
While Honda has been showing off the 2017 Honda Civic Type R Prototype since a few months and has also revealed that it will be releasing the Type R much earlier than its predecessors to meet with demands, it has refrained from revealing the specifications of the car. The specifications can be left for some other time, but we at least know that the pre-production version or possibly the production version of the car is now being tested on roads.
According to CarAdvice.com.au, one of its avid readers sent across a couple of images of what seems to be a camouflaged Civic Type R being tested near the Gold Coast in Queensland. The car was wearing Victoria plates and that’s understandable considering that Honda has its headquarters for the country in Victoria.
The sighting in Australia is in stark contrast to what we saw a couple of days back in Southern California where the car was being tested in its full glory with all the features matching the prototype version of the car.
In case of the Australian tests, the camouflage manages to hide almost all the features of the Type R, but if we compare this version of the car with the 2017 Honda Civic Type R Prototype, we can see that the features do resemble a lot and the vehicle is pretty recognisable as a Civic Type R with aggressive bodykit, large alloy wheels, massive rear wing, three tailpipes, and big Brembo brakes.
While Honda hasn’t detailed what its Civic Type R will bring to the table as far as the powertrain is concerned, there have been unconfirmed reports that it will feature a version of the current model’s 231kW/400Nm 2.0-litre turbo driving the front wheels.
Honda is going to go for an early release of its Civic Type R this year in quite a few countries to cope with the demand. Australia is going to get the Type R this time around and it has been confirmed that it will be releasing in late 2017. on the other hand in Canada and US the 2017 Honda Civic Type R will be released most likely in mid-2017.
