It’s official! TCL Communication Technology Holdings Limited (TCT) has been handed over the licenses to the BlackBerry brand and with TCL confirming that they are going to show off their first product at Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2017, the focus is now on: which handset is it?
Reports have indicated that the new BlackBerry handset will most likely be a QWERTY smartphone because TCL had said that they intend to keep the BlackBerry brand legacy alive through a new generation of smartphones. Nothing has been officially revealed as far as the specifications of the new smartphone are concerned, we have been receiving multiple reports that the BlackBerry Mercury could be the device that TCL will launch at CES 2017.
A new render has emerged online from over the wall with the report indicating that the DTEK70 will have a physical QWERTY keyboard, a the candybar design, 4.5-inch display, and a fingerprint sensor among other things.
Benchmarking reports have indicated a Snapdragon 625 chipset with 3GB of RAM which makes it a mid-ranger. Some of the other specifications that have been circling the web are Snapdragon 625 CPU, 3GB RAM, 32GB of inbuilt storage, a 3400mAh battery, an 18-megapixel rear camera, and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera, Android 7.0 Nougat and BlackBerry’s customisations for security.
Some reports have indicated that instead of the Snapdragon 625, TCL will be going for the flagship Snapdragon 821 processor and could feature a much larger battery that could offer the smartphone extended juice of up to 2 days.
We would recommend taking all these things with a pinch of salt considering that nothing officially has been said about the hardware that the new BlackBerry smartphone will feature, but one thing is certain that BlackBerrys will live on for quite some time.
