As Outlook for iOS turned two recently and to commemorate this milestone, Microsoft decided to update the app and incorporate support for in-house add-ins for Dynamics 365 and Microsoft Translator as well as multiple third-party add-ins including Evernote, GIPHY, Nimble, Trello and Smartsheet.
The add-ins are effectively mini versions of the full-fledged apps that are already available on the App Store. You can install these add-ins into your Outlook on iOS and perform tasks such as translation on the go, accessing extra contact information, review and update the customer’s CRM history, update your notes or project board, add a card to Trello, find quick media, and much more.
Microsoft said the add-ins for Outlook on iOS are available today to Office 365 customers and these add-ins will soon be available for Outlook on Android. If you have Outlook on iOS, you can start using the add-ins right away by visiting Settings -> Add-ins. You will find a list of all the available add-ins and upon clicking the + sign next to the add-ins you want to enable, the add-in gets installed and is ready for use.
You will not have to wait as the extensions would be enabled right away and you can then access the same add-in across different platforms as well, assuming that you sign in with the same e-mail and that the platform of your choice supports extensions for Outlook.
One thing you will have to keep in mind is that the add-ins for Outlook on iOS are currently only available when you are reading an email. Microsoft has confirmed that it will be adding more add-in actions when composing or replying to an email in the future.
The new add-ins that have found their place in the latest update are:
