Outlook on iOS lands support for multiple third-party add-ins

February 3, 2017 By Ravi Leave a Comment

As Outlook for iOS turned two recently and to commemorate this milestone, Microsoft decided to update the app and incorporate support for in-house add-ins for Dynamics 365 and Microsoft Translator as well as multiple third-party add-ins including Evernote, GIPHY, Nimble, Trello and Smartsheet.

The add-ins are effectively mini versions of the full-fledged apps that are already available on the App Store. You can install these add-ins into your Outlook on iOS and perform tasks such as translation on the go, accessing extra contact information, review and update the customer’s CRM history, update your notes or project board, add a card to Trello, find quick media, and much more.

Microsoft said the add-ins for Outlook on iOS are available today to Office 365 customers and these add-ins will soon be available for Outlook on Android. If you have Outlook on iOS, you can start using the add-ins right away by visiting Settings -> Add-ins. You will find a list of all the available add-ins and upon clicking the + sign next to the add-ins you want to enable, the add-in gets installed and is ready for use.

You will not have to wait as the extensions would be enabled right away and you can then access the same add-in across different platforms as well, assuming that you sign in with the same e-mail and that the platform of your choice supports extensions for Outlook.

One thing you will have to keep in mind is that the add-ins for Outlook on iOS are currently only available when you are reading an email. Microsoft has confirmed that it will be adding more add-in actions when composing or replying to an email in the future.

The new add-ins that have found their place in the latest update are:

Microsoft Dynamics 365 – Microsoft Dynamics 365 brings together business applications with the best of Microsoft—in productivity, collaboration, intelligence and platform—to give businesses the right set of tools to grow, evolve and transform.

Nimble – Nimble is a social CRM application that provides business intelligence about your email contacts and their organizations—right in email. With the Nimble add-in for Outlook, you can get insights on any contact included in Outlook, including broad social profiles, industry, shared relationships, mutual interests, company profile, revenue and more, to help you get prepared for meetings and engage effectively.

Trello – Trello is a collaborative tool that enables you to organize and prioritize your projects. With the Trello add-in for Outlook, you can turn your email into actionable items, keep track of your projects and make sure important emails never fall through the cracks.

Evernote – Evernote helps you capture what’s on your mind and stay organized. With the new Evernote add-in for Outlook, you can clip emails from Outlook to a project notebook in Evernote, where they will appear alongside other project-related assets such as meeting notes, saved web pages or Office documents.

Microsoft Translator – Microsoft Translator provides you with a simple and effective way to translate and read messages in your chosen language. With the Translator add-in for Outlook, you can now translate email messages on the fly, with support for 60 languages powered by Microsoft Translator.

Smartsheet – Smartsheet is a collaborative solution to help you manage and automate work. With Smartsheet’s add-in for Outlook, users can get work assigned, updated and completed more quickly, without ever having to leave their email.

GIPHY – GIPHY is the world’s first and largest GIF search engine, where thousands of artists, brands and pop culture moments make today’s expression, entertainment and info a little more moving. With the new GIPHY add-in for Outlook, you can now use GIFs to congratulate a friend or co-worker, wish them a happy birthday or simply add a touch of your personality, without leaving your inbox.

Solitaire lands on Android and iOS

November 24, 2016 By Ravi Leave a Comment

Top-of-the-line high graphics game are a delight to play, but there is no denying the fact that age-old arcade and classic games still have that respect among the gaming community that even some modern games don’t have.

One such game is Microsoft’s Solitaire, which is by default shipped with almost all version of Windows operating system since 1990 and has managed to achieve a special place in the workplace as well as homes alike. While the game may not be something which forces people to install Windows operating system, it is definitely one of those games that still finds millions of takers worldwide.

That’s probably the reason why Microsoft has finally brought its Solitaire game to both Android and iOS mobile platforms. While the Google Play Store and Apple App Store have been full of solitaire games from different developers, it is for the first time that Microsoft is bringing the game officially.

Microsoft Solitaire Collection is now available for free and can be downloaded from Google Play and the App Store. The mobile version of the app comes with five different game modes including FreeCell, Spider, Klondike, Tripeaks, and Pyramid.

Further, the game comes with Xbox Live integration that allows your progress to be saved in the cloud. This means that you can continue playing on another device with either Windows 10 or Android/iOS and even share your Xbox Live achievements with your friends and family. The completion of daily challenges within the game will help players earn badges and rewards.

The Redmond-based company has made the premium version of the app, which comes without any ads, game boosts, and double coins for daily challenges, free for a month on Android in order to celebrate the worldwide release of its mobile game. This special offer ends December 31. Rose Prada 2018

Although there have been several solitaire games on mobile platforms for many years now, the loyal players to the original Microsoft game have finally got the mobile game for which they have awaited for years.
