With only 300 units to be manufactured, the Mercedes-Maybach S 650 Cabriolet joins the list of exclusive cars that only a few lucky ones can possess. The first ever cabriolet from luxury automaker was recently unveiled at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show.
Powering the Mercedes-Maybach S 650 Cabriolet is the 6.0-litre biturbo V12 engine with an output of 463 kW (630 PS). Power transmission to the rear axle comes courtesy of the 7G-TRONIC, while the AIRMATIC suspension with steplessly variable damping control ensures a special driving sensation.
In the interior, the fully leather-trimmed Mercedes-Maybach S 650 Cabriolet brings some of the visionary ideas of the Concept S-Class Coupé (IAA 2013) to series production. These include the dynamic “flowing lines” in the seats. This waterfall-like seat upholstery layout is achieved with the aid of progressive perforations. All of the optional extras of the S-Class Cabriolet come as standard on the Mercedes-Maybach, including AIRCAP, AIRSCARF and Swarovski headlamps.
Based on the open-top S-Class, the Mercedes-Maybach S 650 Cabriolet adopts the open-top’s classic proportions with a host of chrome accents underlining the distinctive luxury. The Maybach emblem is positioned discreetly and elegantly on the front wing. Another special feature is the 50.8 cm (20 inch) Maybach forged duotone wheels.
Mercedes-Benz designers realised this waterfall visual with the aid of progressive perforation. The diamond quilting on the outer cushions and the Budapest-style piping bear witness to the carefully applied attention to detail.
The Mercedes-Maybach S 650 Cabriolet is limited to 300 units worldwide and will come to market in spring 2017 at a price of 300,000 euro excluding tax.
“Mercedes-Maybach stands for the highest levels of exclusivity, perfect craftsmanship and automotive intelligence,” said Dietmar Exler, President & CEO of Mercedes-Benz USA. “Our Mercedes‑Maybach sedans guarantee an exceptional experience for rear-seat passengers. However, the focus of the new Mercedes-Maybach S 650 Cabriolet is very much on the driver.”
Mercedes also showed off Mercedes-AMG GT C Roadster and the Mercedes-Benz GLE 43 alongside Mercedes-AMG E 63 4MATIC+ at the LA Auto Show.
